It doesn’t help that the mini containers for mixing paint samples hasn’t been available in over two years, and tiny color chips are not enough. A competitive company’s color tool does better in many of these areas so it’s surprising SW hasn’t bothered. That’s a lot of paint choices! It would be helpful if this painting “tool” was more versatile. I found some new Krylon Dual primer/paint that covers in two coats and is near to an exact match to Stihl orange. We recently bought this home, so it needed painting anyway-but it’s every room. My furnace blew soot ALL over my house so EVERYTHING needs to be repainted, in every room. By building on NASA technologies and expertise and bringing together solutions from multiple agencies involved in disaster response, STEReO aims to make an impact greater than any solution could have on its own. Working to tackle these challenges and more is the Scalable Traffic Management for Emergency Response Operations project, or STEReO, led by NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. However, these aircraft also demand special air traffic management, onboard tools to let them operate independently and safely, and expanded communications to keep everyone aware of what’s happening in the sky and on the ground. For instance, unmanned aircraft systems, commonly called UAS or drones, could make firefighters’ interventions faster, more targeted and better able to adapt to changing environments. New technologies have great potential to assist emergency responders, but they also bring new challenges. Responding to an emergency like this – or a hurricane or search and rescue effort, to name a few – requires extensive collaboration among a host of groups that, right now, is coordinated manually under challenging conditions. Consider just the number of different aircraft that might be involved in fighting a wildfire: tankers releasing fire retardant, lead planes to guide them, helicopters dropping off field crews, aircraft from which smokejumpers arrive on the scene… And that’s to say nothing of the activity taking place on the ground. (His younger son Andrei was named for filmmaker Tarkofsky.) By embracing this forbidden territory in video, as opposed to traditional media like painting or sculptures, Viola can evade the charges of critics who consider spiritual art to be somehow atavistic, even reactionary. But he declares that all art, throughout history, was at some point contemporary and he finds allies in pre-modern artists: Fra Angelico, Mantegna, William Blake, for whom he named his elder son. In this, he has found himself isolated from the mainstream of contemporary art, which is decidedly secular these days. No music, just the intensity of the image and a sense of anticipation, heightening our own awareness, our own consciousness.Ĭolor High-Definition video projection four channels of sound with subwoofer (4.1) 11:12 minutesĭevoted for decades to the lessons of Zen masters, Sufi poets and Gnostic Christians, Viola has never wavered from his faith in an art with spiritual roots and transcendent implications. Viola's early interest in music, playing with David Tudor after college, contributes to his great gift for timing, holding a viewer’s attention during prolonged moments of inactivity, such as the man lying on a slab in the pouring rain for minutes until he is pulled suddenly upward in Tristan's Ascension. A piece can be 15 feet to 20 feet tall or small as an iPad with equal impact.īill Viola, "Tristan's Ascension" (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall), 2005Ĭolor High-Definition video projection four channels of sound with subwoofer (4.1) 10:16 minutes The 20 works, ranging from 1977 to 2013, are arrayed over two floors with Viola's sound installation in the circular stairwell that links them. The Grand Palais is a beaux arts behemoth but individual enclosed galleries were built within it to contain each work for maximum impact. Unlike many video exhibitions, each piece is contained in a darkened room making the visual impact crystalline and allowing the sound to remain subtle, without bleeding into other galleries. The show at the Grand Palais makes this abundantly clear. As Viola says, he was born the same year as television and he has been a true believer ever since the getting his hands on a portapak while a student at Syracuse University.īill Viola, "Catherine's Room" (detail), 2001Ĭolor video polyptych on five LCD flat panels, 18 minutes With decades of extraordinary output, it couldn’t have been easy for curators Jerome Neutres and Kira Perov, who is Viola's wife and collaborator, to choose pieces that best reflect what Viola has done, which was to change the appearance, the scale, the very significance of what was originally considered to be a marginal medium in contemporary art. But Bill Viola, the survey now on view at the Grand Palais, is unparalleled in every way. I’ve seen individual pieces in LA such as The Passions at the Getty or his video sets for Tristan and Isolde as well as his big 25 year Whitney Museum survey that came to LACMA in 1997. My first review was in 1978 and, in some way, it launched the career that I've had ever since. Argilac, being his arrogant self, took offense in this and said no. And so, in response, he offered the hand of his closest friend (and some say, his allegedly bastard brother) Orys Baratheon. This didn’t interest Aegon because (although the promise of lands was tempting) he already had two wives and would rather call the shots himself. He offered lands and the hand of his only daughter Argella. This bothered the last Storm King, Argilac Durrandon (otherwise known as Argilac the Arrogant), who thought that his best recourse to protect his lands would be to get in touch with the, then aloof, Lord of Dragonstone Aegon. Harren Hoare was the King of the Isles and the Rivers and was not only nearing the end of construction of the expansive and towering Harrenhal, but was also thinking of furthering his dominion. And as much as we all love Succession and to see the Targaryens at the height of their power (it’s during House of the Dragon’s timeframe that the Targaryens had, not only an abundance of heirs but also, dragons), it would have also been as equally fantastic to see Aegon, his sisters, and Balerion, the Black Dread, come to life. Here’s to hoping that they do!) but rather, the Targaryens scheming and plotting against one another, a la Succession, to see whose turn it is to sit on the pointy chair made of swords. That said, based on these tidbits and the released trailer, we most likely won’t actually see Aegon the Conqueror’s infamous and legendary invasion of Westeros ( unless…they do flashbacks. Martin himself has also essentially confirmed that the prequel would take place sometime during 103 AC, in a February 2022 post on his blog, sharing that the new show was based on his novellas The Princess and the Queen and The Rogue Prince (in addition to more material from Fire & Blood). From what we currently know, House of the Dragon will cover different periods and eras of the Targaryens’ reign on the Iron Throne, unlike in Thrones, where the narrative ended at around 305 AC. Martin’s dense and rich history of Westeros and A Song of Ice and Fire’s narrative, the first question to ask here is how far will this new show actually go back? Thrones take place in the year 298 AC (“AC” here means “After Conquest”), dating to nearly three centuries since Aegon the Conqueror’s invasion of Westeros. He performs many of his own stunts in that show, so we know he’d have the physicality to pull off the many battles and duels that Aegon participates in before he builds the Iron Throne.Ĭasting Cavill might be a little too on-the-nose at this point given how many fans have clamored for it, but there’s little doubt that he would crush the part.As we all know, House of the Dragon will serve as a prequel to Thrones, but given George R.R. As Geralt, he can be vicious when necessary but has a heart of gold buried underneath. Jokes aside, Cavill has the kind of balance an actor needs to play Aegon. He even wears a silver-white wig on The Witcher he’s practically there already. Fans have been dreaming of casting Cavill as Aegon for a long time. Perhaps the most popular fan cast for Aegon right now is Henry Cavill, best known for playing Superman in the DCEU and the monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. Henry Cavill should play Aegon the Conqueror deserted scope DMs NA □⚰️ April 3, 2023ġ. Let’s dreamcast a few actors who we think could pull off this role and lead the Game of Thrones franchise to another victory. Part of Aegon’s legend is that he’s essentially a young upstart who sets out to unite the Seven Kingdoms and (mostly) does, together with his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya. That gives us a bit of flexibility when casting the part, but only a bit. By the time First Dornish War finished, he was closer to 40. He was around 25 at the start of the Conquest. To play him, an actor will have to be able to embody both his ruthlessness as well as the compassionate side, which he demonstrated to pardon some of his greatest enemies once they bent the knee. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, we do have some idea of what Aegon looked like at least. He is described as a tall, broad-shouldered warrior with few equals, but also an intelligent ruler well-versed in history and governance. Aegon’s Conquest happened around 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, but thanks to George R.R. Of course, this begs the question of who should play Aegon the Conqueror. This is a pivotal point in Westerosi history which is referred to in just about every single one of author George R.R. This week, news broke that HBO is considering making a Game of Thronesprequel series about Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. 12/14/2023 0 Comments Anki mac appI have passed this suggestion directly on to our Product team.
